Sweater, a Love Story

I got this sweater on Friday and have worn it every day since. Although I tend to avoid turtlenecks because they irritate the huge goiter* in my neck, this one is loose enough that I am not bothered. I've wanted a natural colored chunky knit sweater for a long time but most of the ones in my price range have been itchy. Happily I found this one at H&M on Friday and the rest has been history. Also check out my $2.39 skirt courtesy of the clearance rack at Old Navy.

Forgiving

I got this shirt for $6 at H&M a few months ago. It is very loose and forgiving and keeps me from looking too ridiculous when I want to wear these fabulous but too tight jeans.

Mad Woman

I really like the '60's mad men style of this sweater but I find it hard to wear without starting a baby bump rumor. I also find the color challenging. I ended up playing it safe by pairing it with a slim black skirt (check out the cute zipper detail in the back*). Not the most creative pairing but good enough for a slow, rainy, Wednesday. I chose ankle booties to give the outfit some "edge" and because I need to run around this afternoon and didn't feel like dealing with heels.

Coed

I had planned to wear a dress today but at the last minute I decided comfort was more important so I channeled my inner '70s coed and threw this on. I tend to shy away from cowboy style boots because it is hard not to feel like a poseur when you live in the north east. However, these boots were a super bargain on eBay and I think the cowboy style is subtle enough for the NYC area.

Easy Power Dressing

After Saturday's color explosion, I played it safe for court this morning. I bought this dress on sale at Banana Republic and I love how easy it is. Just toss on a blazer and I'm done. The boots are a little bit edgy for court but with any luck I'll be sitting down most of the day.

Saturday Night Brights

I purchased these pants impulsively even though I have not yet been able to make colored pants "work" for me. Even though they are bright pink (not my favorite color) and cropped (not my favorite cut) I really like them. Last night I took another tip from Lucky magazine and paired them with a gold metallic sweater and black turtleneck. Weird but I really liked it (I think another color turtleneck might have been better but considering I put this outfit together in 3 minutes, I'm calling it a win). What do you think?

I Changed My Shirt For You

I have been battling a cold all week and have had to place "staying vertical and not hacking up a lung" above "looking cute." However, when I realized that the shirt I was wearing was really ugly I decided I could not lose face with my readers and changed. Clearly my vanity did not extend to ironing my jeans or posing in a non-dorky way, but I tried.

Hard and Soft

One of my sartorial goals is to seamlessly blend soft summer dresses with harder fall pieces. The girls at Lucky magazine make it seem so easy but I never seem to get it right.

Action Barbie

I almost wish I could show you my face in this photo because my expression is hilarious. Although my commitment to internet discretion prevailed, I believe my body language gives you a rather large hint as to what a goofball I am. Seriously - who walks like this?

Wardrobe Malfunction

Today's wardrobe malfunction is fairly minor and more correctable than many of my past malfunctions but I was too lazy to take a new picture so I've cleverly hidden my gaffe with a Sneetch star.

Garanimals

I'm back from my amazing mini-break, which featured a much needed half day of spa services and one of the best comedy shows I've ever seen (Louis CK - if you like comedy, go see him next time he comes to your town). Unfortunately I picked up a cold yesterday and so my usual witty banter has been smothered by a NyQuil hangover.

My friend L once posited that J. Crew is like Garanimals for adults, and this outfit is testimony to the fact. Everything is by J. Crew, purchased at different years/seasons and it all works.

Short Week, Short Skirt, Long Jacket

I've done what many have thought impossible, combined my own silly meme with a Cake reference. You're welcome readers.

As evidenced by the deteriorating quality (and sense) of my posts demonstrate, I am a wee bit burned out and ready for my mini-break which starts tomorrow. Assuming I do not drown in a pitcher of margaritas, I'll be back in a few days. In the meantime, if you need something to do, you can advise me on how to make this Cake earworm go away and how to pose so that my left leg is not grossly larger than my right leg.

Short Week, Short Pants

I swear that when I put on these pants this morning I gave no consideration to the fact that they would be a continuation of yesterday's short theme. I had actually planned to discuss* Gwen Stefani and how she inspired me to try wearing cropped pants with heels. But since I don't have much more to say than that, I ended up piggybacking on yesterday's silly theme. Two more sleeps until my mini-break!

Short Week, Short Shirt

I am a little giddy today because it is a three day work week for me. I'm taking mr. deathstar away on Thursday and Friday for a birthday adventure and I am more excited about getting away than I have been in a long long time. Not even the epic collapse of the Jets is getting me down today.

In honor of the short week I am wearing a short shirt. Okay I didn't really think about how short this shirt was until I put it on, but a theme's a theme.

Happy Friday everyone! After wearing a lot of black this week, I decided to brighten things up a little today. Although the striped sweater is old and a little big, I cannot bear to part with it because I love the colors.

Feeling Frisky

Sorry about the bad cat pun, but I am tired and my creative energy has fallen to bad pun (which, according to my bad humor alert chart is slightly above the Three Stooges and just below Happy Gilmore). I'm also sorry I couldn't be bothered to take off my jacket to show you the lovely, albeit work inappropriate, blouse I'm wearing. It was my very first Goodwill purchase and started me on my thrifting addiction.

Romance

My parents were married for almost 40 years before my mother passed away in 2005. Early in their marriage my father had this necklace made for my mom, a globe with a small ruby chip on India - where they met. Just like this necklace, I wear this when I want to feel close to my mom or need some extra luck to get me through the day.

Grey and Mustard

One of the many archaic fashion "rules" rattling around in my head, is the notion that one should pair warm colors with other warm colors. However, after my successful pairing of grey and brown a few weeks ago, I decided to take it a step further and pair this cool grey skirt with this warm mustard cardigan and I love the combination. It doesn't hurt that it is almost impossible to go wrong when wearing a pencil skirt, even if it looks like you slept in it.
