Shaggy Shoe Story

A week ago I saw a girl wearing these shoes and was surprised to learn they were from Payless.  She swore they were comfortable and I decided I had to have them.  According to their website, they had them in stock in my size at the store around the corner from my office.  Pleased with my ability to plan ahead, I went there and tried them on.  They were fantastic but 1/2 a size too big.  They did not have the 1/2 size down in stock, so I went to other store in walking distance of my office.  And struck out.  I ended up ordering them on-line which, thanks to a coupon and the BOGO offer, meant I could order a second pair for about $10.  Which I did.

In summary, if you need a cute and comfortable pair of inexpensive wedge pumps, you should try Payless.  Although the reviews on the website mostly state they fit true to size, I needed to go down 1/2 a size.

Muskrat Love

This post doesn't have anything to do with Muskrats, Love, or the Captain and Tennille, but I am pretty sure it would be a better post if it did.

Dressing Sally Hapsburg

Many years ago my friend W was lamenting his lack of a girlfriend and we ended up inventing one* for him.  Her name was Sally Hapsburg and she was blonde and cute and belonged to a country club.  I suspect that she would wear something like this, except that I bet her pants wouldn't be from Goodwill.

A few years ago, W married R, an amazing, non-fictional woman, and is living happily ever after in NYC.   Here is a video of him (and our friend M) singing to his new bride.

Ikat and Leopard

With the notable exception that this dress is a little more snug than it should be, I am really happy with this outfit.

House Dress

I've been wearing a variation of this outfit all weekend - cotton dress, bangle, comfortable shoes.   When something works you might as well stick with it.

Bring on the Salted Cheesecake

I went to the doctor today and my heart has been deemed normal enough that I can start running again.  Which I will do right after this doughnut and 8 hours of work ....

Progress

I have not wanted to jinx things by talking too much about it, but I have been doing fairly well with my re-commitment to the original tenants of Stuff Fast, namely - buying less stuff, using what I have, and getting rid of things I don't need or use.  I've listed a ton of my purses for sale and have traded in a bunch of stuff to Amazon, and have made countless donations to Goodwill.  I have a very long way to go, but I finally feel like I am on the right track.

One surprisingly useful tool in the war on stuff has been Mint.com.   I was very wary of this site at first but now I wish I had joined years ago.  At a glace I can see my spending to income ratio as well as get a all in one place summary of my spending.  Having it spelled out in black and white (actually lots of color charts) has been really helpful.  Also helpful, unsubscribing to all emails from my favorite stores, throwing away any catalogs before I can look at them (mr. deathstar actually takes care of this for me), and avoiding shopping during my lunch hour.

These shoes represent one recent exception to my shopping ban.  I fell in love with the color and shape and once I found out how comfortable they are, I was hooked.   To make room for them, I donated five other pairs of shoes to Goodwill.  I have another pair of yellow patent shoes, that I have nearly worn out so I suspect that these will be worth every penny.

Mad Attorney

Today I am going to a seminar on foreclosure defense strategies (I live a very glamorous life).  Although I usually use seminars as an excuse to dress down, I've noticed that many attorneys dress up for them.  So in an effort to blend in, I threw on a skirt and heels. Although I am the only person in America who doesn't watch Mad Men, I know enough about the show to think that this outfit has a 60's vibe, which I really dig.

Summer in April

Jessica Quirk of the fashion blog What I Wore is focusing on stripes this week so I thought I'd join her today.  Although Memorial Day is still a month away, I broke tradition and dug out my white jeans since the weather promises to be quite warm today.  I paired them with this cotton shirt and open toe espadrilles.  Next time I'll do colored shoes since this outfit really needs a pop of color.

Too Much?

I found this dress in the back of my closet this weekend.  I bought it for $7 at Target ages ago but it didn't fit properly.  It is still a bit too snug (I hope the 5 minutes I spent trying to get into it this morning doesn't count as forbidden exercise) but I decided to wear it anyway.  I had planned to wear a plain black blazer with it but at the last minute switched it to this one.  Not sure if it is too much black and white - what say you?

14-3 = 10 days

I have been trying to organize my notes at work and found the cryptic message used in the title of this post.  I have no idea what it means ....but if I figure it out I will let you know.

Time on My Hands

I am temporarily sidelined from running this week while my doctor(s) run some tests on my decaying body.  I decided to take advantage of being on IR to go through my purses and found this gem tucked away.  I love everything about this bag except the size - it is just a wee bit too small.  But I cannot bring myself to part with it just yet.

Dual Purpose

Not only is this book full of helpful information, it also hides my Easter candy paunch in this photo.  Unfortunately it does not disguise my poor posture, but there is only so much one can ask of a book.

Juror Number 0

I was supposed to have jury duty today, but at the last minute I found out I did not have to appear. I was really excited* until I realized that it meant that I had to go to work instead.

*Serving on a jury is actually interesting, but waiting to be chosen (or in my case rejected) for a jury is not interesting at all.

Dear Self...

I have been wanting to tell you this for sometime but it is hard to break the news considering we share the same brain and all.  Nonetheless, from me to me, it is time to face the facts:  it is no longer 1992 and you are no longer in your 20's and maybe it is time to retire the crazy outfits.  After all you are a theoretically professional person.  And, it is not a secret that you do not really have the figure you used to.  Don't worry, you can still listen to The Cure and play dress-up on the weekends.  But maybe you should tone things down in the office.

Love,
You

Back in Black

Black pants used to be an  essential  part of my wardrobe.  Recently, I've found myself relying on them less and less and turning more to color.  But today I tuned back the clock and returned to my sartorial traditions - black pants, simple blouse, black shoes = out the door in less than 5 minutes.

Ahoy Sailor

I bought this dress thinking it would be the perfect Spring dress.  And while it is cute, I'm just not in love with it (dear dress, it's not you, it's me).

Ignore the Shoes

I could not get my act together this morning.  I tried to go for a run but realized 1/2 a mile in that I had taken the wrong keys and had to go back to the house before my husband left for work and locked me out.  Then I could not be bothered to find shoes that went with this outfit.  I actually spent some time trying before throwing in the towel and grabbing some loafers.  I'll do better tomorrow.  Maybe.

Paying the Price

This weekend was pretty much all about running and food.  Yesterday was my longest run of my short running career (9.1 miles) which I decided gave me license to eat everything in sight.  This morning I am paying the price by feeling bloated and nauseous.  Or maybe it was the bottle of wine I drank.  Anyway, this week it is time to dust off the discipline and get my act together.
