Happy Holidays

I ran out of band-aids this morning and my vanity would not allow me to show you the bruised, scabby mess of flesh formerly known as my knees.

In happier news, it is Christmas Eve and I am taking tomorrow and the following day off from work.  This is a big improvement over last year when I spent all of the holidays preparing for a trial.

My Right Foot

I recently started to increase my running mileage and my right foot has paid the price.  I will not gross you out by explaining further but the upshot is that there are a limited number of shoes I can wear until the pain goes away.  Which is a long way of explaining why I'm always in these boots.

Must Be the Season of the Witch

I did not intend to wear black yet again this week, but the colorful skirt I planned to wear was a bit too tight this morning.  So instead I grabbed this adorable skirt that I got for $19 at Forever 21 a few weeks ago.  I have no idea what is wrong with my posture/torso in this photo but I was too lazy to take another picture.

Stubborn

I wanted to wear these boots today and planned to pair them with this dress.  I couldn't find that dress, however, but stubbornly refused to give up the plan to wear these boots.  After trying on everything in my closet I finally gave up on my intention to look coordinated - but not the boots.

P.S.  If you live in the US - don't forget to vote today!   I did it this morning although my polling place didn't give me a sticker to prove it :(

Do you like my costume?  I call it - woman who owns too many black dresses and leopard print shoes.

Not So Pretty In Pink

I have never liked the color pink.  The first time I got in trouble in school was in the third grade when John Allbright thought I took his rain coat.  At that time, there were only three rain coat colors - yellow, pink, and blue.  Trendsetter that I was - I was the only girl in the class with a blue raincoat.  Everyone just assumed I had taken John's raincoat until his was located in his cubby.

It has been 30+ years since that fateful event and I still don't like pink.  But this skirt didn't come in blue so I took a chance on it.  I can't say I love it but I doubt John Allbright will accuse me of having taken it from him.

Friday Masochism

Considering how much suffering I went through to put this outfit together, you'd think it would look better.  First there are the jeans, which are normally comfortable but which are pressing on my sore knees in the most painful manner.   Then there is this shirt which I have owned for years but never wear because every time I try, I look like a reject from a casting call to play Mary Ann Gilligan's Island.   I made myself wear it to justify keeping it (why?) since it was next up on the "not worn in a year and must be tossed" rack.  Last but not least is the necklace which you can't see but which has the most impossible clasp in the world.  There is no reason for me to keep it and struggle (I have literally dozens of other choices), but I do.

Versatile

Remember this dress from the summer?  Here it is again worn as a blouse.  I almost wore it as a dress over the jeans (remember that trend?) but decided I the leopard shoes were edgy enough.

Pajama Party

I really wanted this dress to work but I think I have to admit that it just doesn't.  In spite of it being unflattering, this dress is super comfortable - I feel like I'm wearing a nightgown.  Which, if you ignore the lack of sleeping bags, junk food, hair braiding, and fun -  makes me feel like I am having a pajama party at work.

14-3 = 10 days

I have been trying to organize my notes at work and found the cryptic message used in the title of this post.  I have no idea what it means ....but if I figure it out I will let you know.

Down to the wire

With any luck, my laundry woes will be resolved this afternoon. Which is a huge relief because I had pretty much worn through all my comfortable underwear and an now stuck wearing the uncomfortable stuff from the back of the drawer. I've also run out of jeans that I don't need a crowbar to get into. Which, I suppose, is not the fault of my appliances and more a function of poor shopping habits and the ingestion of too much wine and bread this weekend. But, I'm a lawyer and I'll figure out a way to hold something else accountable. JD 1, Personal Accountability 0.

Coed

I had planned to wear a dress today but at the last minute I decided comfort was more important so I channeled my inner '70s coed and threw this on. I tend to shy away from cowboy style boots because it is hard not to feel like a poseur when you live in the north east. However, these boots were a super bargain on eBay and I think the cowboy style is subtle enough for the NYC area.

Lost a Lawyer to Her Clothes

Fridays are not a typical court day for me, but the court scheduled a conference for today and here I am stuck in a suit for the day. A smarter person might have brought some jeans to change into later, but, as I have demonstrated on numerous occasions, foresight is not one of my stronger skills. A smarter person might also have chosen a career that did not involve getting up so early and that didn't involve wearing so many suits.
