Great Dress Bad Photo
Posted by

If you are in the market for an inexpensive dress to wear for the rest of the summer, I suggest going to Old Navy and giving this one a try. (Warning - It is a halter style top so if you are well endowed or disinclined to wear a strapless bra, then it is not for you).

Questions to Answers You Didn't Ask

Today's outfit is a little dull so I thought I'd play Jeopardy with myself
82.7 degrees and rising: What is the temperature in my office right now?
Leo with Scorpio rising and moon in Libra: What is my sun sign?
969: What is the approximate number of days since I have had a vacation that involved leaving the state for more than three days?
Kermit the Frog: Who is my favorite Muppet?
48: What is the number of purses I have sold/re-homed since starting my stuff fast resolution?
Don't ask: What is the number of purses left to me sold/re-homed?

Marie Curie Better Watch Out

Today's experiment - switching my usual cardigan for a button down shirt. I think I am on to something. Do they give nobel prizes for sartorial awesomeness?

After weeks of wearing mostly dresses and skirts I wanted to change things up today. Although jeans are hardly a sartorial break through, this outfit is a little different than my usual style. I am even wearing earrings for a change!

50 States and 1 Funeral
Posted by

I've been away from the internet due to laziness, my uncle's funeral, and much family socializing. I am pretty sure this dress is too short for work. In fact it may not even be a dress. But, as usual, these thoughts occurred to me after I got into the office.

Use your imagination

I purchased this shirt to wear with these shorts. In deference to my air conditioned office and co-worker's sensibilities, I ended up just wearing jeans. But if you use your imagination this is a cute outfit.

Another Day Another Probably Too Short Dress

I really like this dress but I feel that if I wear it on its own - I am just asking someone to throw spaghetti sauce at me. While there have not been any incidents of spaghetti sauce throwing in my town lately (okay ever) I decided not to risk being the first victim and tossed on a cardigan. The cardigan also has the benefit of giving a little shape to the boxy dress. Win win.

Keeping it Real

I considered taking a photograph where my slip was not actually hanging out of half my dress. But then I decided why pretend? The fact is that it is highly likely I will be looking like this for much of the day so why not stay honest. Of course if I was REALLY honest with myself, I'd admit that I am way too old and out of shape to be wearing too short dresses to work (or in public).

The Shirt

Have you ever purchased an item of clothing thinking it was the most awesome thing ever only to be surprised that no one else thinks it is as amazing as you do? That is the story of this shirt. I purchased it probably 10 years ago and no matter how many outfits I've made with it, it just never draws the love and admiration I thought it deserved. In looking at this photo, I'm beginning to think that the world was right and I was wrong.

Tug Dress
Posted by
matilda deathstar
I planned to wear another dress this morning but decided it was too short for work. Then I selected this dress which is also probably too short and which I'll be tugging on all day. Wardrobe challenges notwithstanding, this morning has been lovely so far. I had a nice 5 mile run this morning at a better than usual pace. I found the receipt I needed to return something. And my shoes are bright yellow.

Progress

I have not wanted to jinx things by talking too much about it, but I have been doing fairly well with my re-commitment to the original tenants of Stuff Fast, namely - buying less stuff, using what I have, and getting rid of things I don't need or use. I've listed a ton of my purses for sale and have traded in a bunch of stuff to Amazon, and have made countless donations to Goodwill. I have a very long way to go, but I finally feel like I am on the right track.
One surprisingly useful tool in the war on stuff has been Mint.com. I was very wary of this site at first but now I wish I had joined years ago. At a glace I can see my spending to income ratio as well as get a all in one place summary of my spending. Having it spelled out in black and white (actually lots of color charts) has been really helpful. Also helpful, unsubscribing to all emails from my favorite stores, throwing away any catalogs before I can look at them (mr. deathstar actually takes care of this for me), and avoiding shopping during my lunch hour.
These shoes represent one recent exception to my shopping ban. I fell in love with the color and shape and once I found out how comfortable they are, I was hooked. To make room for them, I donated five other pairs of shoes to Goodwill. I have another pair of yellow patent shoes, that I have nearly worn out so I suspect that these will be worth every penny.
