LBD

After spending all of yesterday feeling like an extra from Ally McBeal, I was in the mood for something a little more conservative.  It may not be the most flattering of my black dresses but is comfortable and hides a lot of sins.

Dress Code Violation

If my office had a dress code, I am pretty sure this dress might violate it.  I forgot that I had a client meeting and wore this because I am going out tonight.  I have a blazer with me (and, if I lose 10lbs in the next hour, matching pants) so I will not completely shame my profession.  One good thing about being a lawyer - the bar is pretty low.

Cowgirl

I look like I should be rustling cattle today instead of negotiating a prenuptial agreement.  I have no excuses other than I was very tired and not feeling well when I got dressed.

Double Exposure

Can anyone have enough navy and green striped t-shirt dresses?  Apparently I can't.  I justified this one with the knowledge that one day I will wear out my other one and I'll have this back-up ready to go. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring proper shoes and a cardigan or blazer (for warmth and to disguise my lumpy figure) so if you need me - I am going to be hiding behind my desk.

Blue Tuesday

I was going to make some blue puns in this post (hence my holding of the "Bluebook") but I lost steam pretty much as soon as I took the photo.  Maybe tomorrow.

Classic

I am so glad that 1.  I remembered I had these jeans and 2.  they still fit even after my weekend eating binge.  I am also happy that I "splurged" on this sweater ($6 thanks to some returns and a discount). I expect I'll be wearing it a lot the rest of the summer.

New Shoes

I went a little crazy this week and did some retail therapy during which I purchased these cute shoes.  You cannot tell from the photo but the color is a yummy tomato red/orange.  They are also super comfortable which is a great bonus.

I Hope I Don't Get Beamed Down to the Planet Alone*

As soon as I put this outfit on I hated it.  But I also hated the thought of having to change and find something else to wear.  So I stuck with it with the hopes it will grow on me.  I know there is nothing objectively bad about it, but it just doesn't feel like "me".

At Least My Hair is Clean

If I was a better blogger I would celebrated today's 500th post with a super special outfit and maybe some flowers. But between the heat, my need to be in court today, and, let's face it, laziness, you get this instead.  I'll do better soon.  Maybe.

Lace

I have been obsessed with lace dresses lately.  However most of my favorites are way out of my budget and extremely impractical for my lifestyle.  So I was quite pleased when I found this lace jacket in my closet this morning.  Paired with a pencil skirt and tank, it is pretty and suitable for work.

Take your nightgown to work

I bought this dress ages ago back when I was still under the delusion that I was going to learn to sew and could alter this dress to make it more fitted and less nightgowny.  Sadly my sewing plans have not quite panned out the way I wanted.  Rather than give up on a perfectly good $6 thrift store find, it occurred to me last night that I could fake the alterations by cinching the waist with a belt and wearing a fitted blazer (you cannot tell in the photo but the dress has a front zipper from the waist up which I am wearing half open).

I actually like the result and I think it looks like a proper dress.  I am also super excited about my new bracelet! I love Trina Turk but she is usually out of my price range.  So when I saw this on clearance for 80% off, I jumped at it.

What Does Madonna Do?

I love this top/tunic but I don't wear it often because the sleeves are a little snug.  I've noticed this in other shirts as well.  While I have had issues with my body size - I have never considered my arms too big (too flabby - yes, too big no).  And yet I find shirts increasingly getting smaller in the arms while remaining the same in the bust and waist.  Is it just me?  Probably.

Hippy Chick

After weeks of wearing mostly dresses and skirts I wanted to change things up today.  Although jeans are hardly a sartorial break through, this outfit is a little different than my usual style.  I am even wearing earrings for a change!

It Ain't Easy Being Green

I swear that when I bought this dress it was not this short.  Apparently I grew or the dress shrank overnight.  The best part of this dress (besides the price ($19!) and color) is the back.  However I could not take a decent photo of it so you will have to either trust me or look at the pretty Zara model.

Gidget Goes Camping

I thought that the black shirt would tone down the Camp-Fire Girlsness of the skirt, but I think it just made it worse.

50 States and 1 Funeral

I've been away from the internet due to laziness, my uncle's funeral, and much family socializing.     I am pretty sure this dress is too short for work.  In fact it may not even be a dress.  But, as usual, these thoughts occurred to me after I got into the office.

Ooops I did it again

Once again I made an impulse purchase because I liked the fabric and failed to consider the fact that the style of dress is not flattering to my figure (although I am starting to wonder if anyone looks good with an empire waist).  Potential unflatteringness aside, this dress is super comfortable and I do like the fabric.  It would look better with heels but I am already pushing the limits of too short for work.  To tone down the potential 4th of July feel - I paired it with a lime green cardigan.
