Wear It - Green Crocs!

I've had these sandals forever but have never had a chance to wear them until today. They are astonishingly comfortable and perfect for a rainy day (if you don't mind wet toes).

Warning This Outfit Might Put You to Sleep

Please use caution when driving or operating heavy machinery and viewing this outfit. The only interesting thing about it is that the pants are so snug that I am in fear that they may split when I'm in court later.

Can Does Not Equal Should

Today's lesson, just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should do it. For example: just because you can zip up your skirt does not mean that you should - especially if you plan to eat during the day.

I was having camera /time management issues this morning so I'm posting a rather unflattering photo. The outfit actually looks better in person - save for the snugness of the skirt.

Today's happiness

This blouse which I got on Saturday's thrifting adventure and is cuter than I thought. These pants which finally fit without cutting off my air supply. A lazy morning where I stayed home and watched True Blood and didn't get into the office until 8:20.

Overly Neutral

Good afternoon readers. How was your weekend? Although Sunday was all work, my Saturday was lovely. To help me get my mind off massive work stress, mr. deathstar accompanied me on a shopping trip. First stop, TJ Maxx where I returned some shoes and got some coffee and face wipes while mr. deathstar picked up some booze at the liquor store. Second stop, Savers (thrift store) where I got this suit* and a gorgeous silk blouse for $15. Finally we went to Ikea where we got a new light fixture for our entrance and some fun kitchen toys that we don't need.

* There were actually 2 nearly identical suits at the store, this one and a black one (there was also a fantastic suit by Theory but unless I removed a rib there was no way it would fit). This one seemed more appropriate for summer but I wonder if the black would have been more flattering. Live and learn.

Blue Heels Are the New Brown Flats

Remember when I said I wanted some brown flats to wear with my brown suits? Well I had a credit at TJ Maxx and saw these electric blue heels just sitting there. Although I am not a fan of kitten heels (kittens, yes, kitten heels, no), I have fondness for electric blue. So I tried them on and they fit perfectly and were so comfortable that I had to buy them.

As I was taking this photograph a man from the mental health facility across the street from my office was running up and down the street wearing a Scream mask and black cape and refusing to let cars into the facility's parking lot. The cops showed up and I had to cut my photo session short because the only thing weirder than a man in a Scream mask is a girl taking photos of herself.

Everybody Trifty

The lovely ladies at Everybody Everywhere are doing a special thrift edition today. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to show off. I was tempted to wear my fabulous Balenciaga dress but decided to wear something "new" (to me). So say hello to this cute skirt from St. John. I don't know about your thrift stores, but in my area who ever does the pricing was clearly taught that certain designers are worth charging more for. Although it is hit or miss (hence the $11 Balenciaga dress), St. John is almost always priced crazy high (often $100 or more). Somehow this skirt slipped through and I picked it up for $20 (which is super expensive for my thrifting standards but a bargain when you consider the quality). It was 10 sizes too big so I had to get it altered (which added to the cost) but I think it will be worth it for all the use I'll get out of it.

I can't wait to wear this in the fall with tall black boots and a black turtleneck!

Does the FCC Fine For Ugly?

I had to crop out my shirt today because my shirt and bra have done so many unflattering things to my boobs that I was worried I might get fined for uglifying the Internets. My hope is that the ugly is confined to photos and if you saw me in real life you'd be like, "nice t-shirt" and not "doesn't she know not to wear a white bra under a sheer black t-shirt and why does she have 5 boobs?"

At least the skirt is cute if you ignore the painful Urban Outfitters earnest hipsterness of it.

Sigh.

tortilla chips and the pack rat

Today's outfit is sponsored by tortilla chips, packratedness, and exhaustion. The tortilla chips are the reason my hips seem crazily out of proportion with the rest of me, the pack rat in me is why I still have this shirt after 10 years, and exhaustion is what led me to put on this rather unflattering outfit and not bother to change.

Sloppy Professional

This skirt was an impulse purchase that worked out better than I hoped. It is comfortable and makes an otherwise sloppily thrown together outfit look professional.

Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want

Which is at lease one day off this weekend. I'm losing my mini-break glow!

I got this jacket during my J. Crew self-pity retail therapy session. I think it is supposed to be boxy but I'm considering taking it in at the sides to make it a little more fitted. What do you think?

I am a Tree

Here's a tip for you, when wearing an all brown suit, don't pose next to a tree. It looks stupid.

On Sunday I engaged in a bout of self-pity based on-line retail therapy and this shirt is one of my new acquisitions. I hope the newness offsets the oldness of this thrifted, dated, pantsuit that, at $12, I could not pass up.

I Shaved My Legs For This?

I knew I didn't like this outfit as soon as I put it on. I was too tired to change so we're all going to have to suffer with it. The good news is that I have apparently gone home at some point between yesterday and today since my clothing is different.

An Ode to Polyester

I purchased this shirt for $1 this weekend and I love it. I expect the reason that it was sitting unwanted and rejected at the thrift store is because it is 100% polyester. But for me, therein lies the charm. Although I have not worn a lot of polyester since the 1970's, the fabric holds many charms. It is machine washable, has a flattering drape, and does not wrinkle. While everyone else is snapping up silk shirts at the thrift stores, I'll be in the polyester aisle.

This photo does not do the shirt justice but after having slept a total of three hours last night, it was the best I could do.

The Power of a Blazer

I spent pretty much the whole weekend wearing a t-shirt dress (this one) and sneakers and I decided to try a professional version of the outfit this morning.

I love this dress but don't wear it often because it it is a little big and looks sloppy when worn on its own. So I added a fitted blazer to neaten things up and I really like the result. I'll probably ditch the belt at some point since it is making the too short dress even shorter.

Nautical Notion

You can't tell from this photo but my watch is orange which makes me absurdly happy. You know what else makes me absurdly happy? The fact that I might actually not have to work this weekend. I don't want to get your (and my) hopes up, but I'm thinking I can take at least two of the next three days off. Maybe even all three.
