Ever have one of those days where you start a two minute task and then look up and realize an hour has passed? That was me this morning. At 7:30 this morning I had one simple task, print a shipping label so I could mail a package before work. I left the house at 9am without a label or make-up and this slap-dash outfit. It may not be the most creative outfit but considering the fact that I almost left the house in my sweaty running clothes - it will do.

For no particular reason, I have designated this sweater as a "weekend" sweater and typically wear it on Saturdays with leggings and and my beer helmet. Although it is Tuesday I decided to wear it to see if my workday might feel more weekendy. This might be a dangerous experiment because, if it works, I may show up to work tomorrow in my Barry Manilow sleep-shirt and a pair of Uggs.

If I were a real fashion blogger or had a modicum of pride or vanity, I would not have posted a photo of this boring, unflattering outfit. But in the interests of honesty and education, I figured I'd post it as a cautionary tale.

Why do I lean at a strange angle in every photograph I take? Why can I never spell the word Plaintiff correctly on the first try? Why am I always craving M&Ms? Why do I dream in the third person? Why can't I get just one kiss? Why would someone give away this cool shirt and why did it take me months to wear it?

I went out of my way to vary my running route this morning to look for radioactive squirrels. Although I was unsuccessful, I did don this slightly radioactive colored sweater and didn't shave my legs as an ode to my quest.
I am afraid that I may have to give up on these pants. I have tried everything I can to make them work and nothing seems to work. Even my trusty chambray, goes with everything, shirt cannot save them. I have an appointment with my surgeon this afternoon to see if medical science can intervene. If not, these pants may just have to be put out to pasture.

I have spent five minutes typing and deleting some of the most boring sentences ever. I respect you all too much to continue with the folly of being interesting today. Hopefully tomorrow I will meet a radioactive squirrel so I'll have something interesting to say.

I had no sooner finished complaining to
Peggy about how my Target had sold out of all the new Jason Wu stuff, when I found the exact dress I wanted, in my size.
I love a simple t-shirt dress and I think this one is surprisingly flattering.
I promise I will cut off the tag and wear more sensible shoes when I wear the dress out of the house.

In my continual battle against clutter, I ended up deleting the album with all my blog photos! I'm in the process of trying to recover and repost what I can but it will take some time. I blame the stress of this turn of events for why I thought pairing purple tights and a red skirt would work.

Although this is not a great photo, I used it because I think my pose is hilarious. I have been wearing these pants every weekend since I got them on clearance a few weeks ago. I even broke my rule about not buying multiples and bought them in black. They are super comfortable and fairly flattering for a drawstring waist pant.

It is hard to imagine but I currently do not own any simple black pumps. I purchased a pair a few months ago but they are too large and I have given up trying to make them work. The absence of a black pump led me to pair these leopard pumps with a striped sweater and I like the result. I don't like the fact that these pants have gotten way too snug but I believe
that has more to do with this week's M&M and French Fry diet and not any shoe deficiency

I've worn this sweater/dress combination before and considered mixing it up by wearing another sweater. But, the fact is I like this combination so I took a chance on boring you all by repeating myself. Besides, who am I to question Missoni?

I wanted this post to be about why Parker Stevenson made a better TV boyfriend than Shaun Cassidy but I have to go to court and get raked over the coals. So I'll leave you all to ponder the subject on your own.

I have a magic mirror in my house. It makes me look 10 lbs thinner and a few years younger than I am. Sadly, whatever magical properties are contained in the mirror cannot be transferred to my camera lens. So it is often a shock when I see how I look in a photo because it differs from what I saw in the mirror.
Today both my mirror and my lens liked this outfit. Perhaps because it is more authentic to my style. Or maybe it is a trick of the light. Or maybe I'm wrong and you all will wonder why I chose to wear a plus sized muumuu over jeans and question my sartorial sanity.

Individually I like each component of this outfit. The plaid shirt, although not my normal style, is cute. The sweater (a gift from mr. deathstar) is warm and I love the deep v-neck. The skirt is a fantastic color and shape. The sweater tights are comfortable and I love that they are grey not black. All together the result is ... not right. Can't quite figure out what the problem is but something is off.

If I saw this outfit on another girl I would think it was super cute. But seeing it on me, it strikes me as wrong. Although I don't know what my personal style is, I don't think this is it.

Although I only slept for 3 hours last night, I have had a very productive morning so far. I ran for 3 miles, cleaned the bathroom, washed my hair (harder than you think), and put away the dishes. All before 8am. What I did not do this morning is match my shoes (or my shirt for that matter) to my skirt. But I think the navy cardigan grounds the outfit so I am going with it. Speaking of shoes, I bought these shoes at the $11 11/11 sale at 6pm.com last year. They are a little too big but otherwise surprisingly comfortable for an $11 shoe. The rest of this outfit is comprised of various Old Navy and Amazon clearance finds. If only bargain shopping was a career option.

On Saturday mr. deathstar and I went to the running store to get him a pair of much needed running shoes. While he chatted with the shoe guy I spotted a bin of sneakers with a sign "size 7 $30". Yes dear reader, a bin of brand new running shoes in my size for $30 a pair. Needless to say, I got 2 pairs (even mr. deathstar understood the wisdom of stocking up at that price).
My week started to decline after that, but at least I got cheap shoes.
My Christmas present to you is that I am not posting my outfit today. Instead you can enjoy this snap of our lovely town beach.

Today's lesson, don't buy M&Ms on sale and think you can just eat a few. You* can't and the next day your pants will be too tight. Also when you go running your ass will flap behind you and slow you down.

In an effort to make this blog educational as well as ridiculous, here is some sound advice. In 2009 I broke my ankle walking across a parking lot. So I am an expert on the subject of why breaking your ankle is bad*. 1. It hurts. A lot. More than you might think considering the bone I broke was smaller than a dime. 2. You might spend a whole summer sitting on your couch instead of playing outside. 3. Nearly 3 years later you will still find pulling on boots incredibly difficult and thus, once you get them on, you will be trapped in an outfit that makes you look like an Oklahoma State co-ed in 1976.
* In fairness, there are some upsides, such as Percoset and the chance to watch every episode of NCIS being re-run on USA.
