Crazy Pants
Posted by
matilda deathstar
The last time I was at my doctor, discussing my chronic anxiety issues, the doctor asked whether I was inclined to any out of control behavior - like compulsive shopping. According to him, this is only a concern if you buy unnecessary things - like a Ferrari. However, I suspect that a better example might be these pants. While these pants cost considerably less than a Ferrari (Old Navy Clearance!) I am pretty sure that lumpy 40 something women should not be purchasing hot pink stretch cropped pants - much less wearing them in public.

Lazy

In order to prepare for Sunday's 5k, I have been tapering my runs down so this morning was shorter than usual. While this could have resulted in a more thought-out outfit, laziness prevailed and I just grabbed my go to uniform of late - dress, cardigan, flats. I put on the necklace at the last minute, but I don't think it does much to elevate the outfit.

Spring in My Bag
Posted by

I spent a little too much time yesterday lusting over some yellow patent leather shoes. To help mitigate the craving for bright yellow and save my wallet from disaster - I dug out one of my favorite bags - Rebecca Minkoff MAB Luxe in sunshine leather. Love this bag.

Things Are Looking Up Or At Least Clean
Posted by

The best part about today's outfit, besides the fact that I scored this theory suit for $12 at Goodwill, is the fact that my t-shirt is clean! After a month, I finally have a working washing machine and dryer. I also have 546894 loads of laundry left to do but I am trying to keep the tone of this blog positive.

Sweatsuit

I have been quite remiss in extolling the virtues of this suit, prior to now. The suit is made from a thick cotton knit and has an elastic waistband - thus it is essentially a grown-up sweatsuit - perfect for a foggy Monday after a weekend in which you ate your body weight in cake.

Suit

Say hello to good black pantsuit. Unlike most of my suits, she did not come from Goodwill but she does not hold that over the other suits in my closet. In addition to these pieces I have a dress and cropped pants that match the blazer. Versatile!

Less Stuff = More?
Posted by
matilda deathstar

This past weekend I joined the rest of the world and got an iPhone. What finally sold me was the concept of having one device that would replace my iPod and camera and thereby simplifying my life. Of course taking a self timed photo on the iPhone requires a bit more effort and equipment so I am not sure if I have added simplicity or more stuff to my life. Until I figure it all out I will probably continue to carry way too much stuff with me and yet never have what I need when I need it.

Frumpy Edge? Edgy Frump?
Posted by
matilda deathstar
Every so often I get frustrated by how ubiquitous fashion can be - especially when your budget limits you to mainstream stores instead of couture :) One way to stand out (for good or bad) is to pair unusual items such as this jacket with more mainstream items such as these basic J. Crew cords. I found this jacket in the clearance aisle at Burlington Coat Factory. It was apparently part of 3 piece suit but only the jacket was left. Although it is two sizes too large and a bit frumpy, I loved the color and decided that for $7 I would take a risk and see if I could make it work.
What do you think? Did I succeed or am I getting aufed this week for my frumpy taste?

tortilla chips and the pack rat
Posted by
matilda deathstar
Today's outfit is sponsored by tortilla chips, packratedness, and exhaustion. The tortilla chips are the reason my hips seem crazily out of proportion with the rest of me, the pack rat in me is why I still have this shirt after 10 years, and exhaustion is what led me to put on this rather unflattering outfit and not bother to change.
