50 States and 1 Funeral

I've been away from the internet due to laziness, my uncle's funeral, and much family socializing.     I am pretty sure this dress is too short for work.  In fact it may not even be a dress.  But, as usual, these thoughts occurred to me after I got into the office.

When Easy Becomes Too Easy

Inspired by the simplicity of yesterday's outfit, I tried to do something similar this morning.  While this wrap dress is easy to wear, I had forgotten that it is cut differently than my other wrap dresses and tends to gap in front no matter how tightly I tie it.  Thus there is a 87% probability I will be flashing the court this morning.  Luckily I will not be there very long.  Also I hate these shoes with this outfit, but they are the only ones I have that can withstand some rain and are comfortable enough to allow me to  walk to court.

14-3 = 10 days

I have been trying to organize my notes at work and found the cryptic message used in the title of this post.  I have no idea what it means ....but if I figure it out I will let you know.

Ignore the Shoes

I could not get my act together this morning.  I tried to go for a run but realized 1/2 a mile in that I had taken the wrong keys and had to go back to the house before my husband left for work and locked me out.  Then I could not be bothered to find shoes that went with this outfit.  I actually spent some time trying before throwing in the towel and grabbing some loafers.  I'll do better tomorrow.  Maybe.

Carrie

If you look closely you can see my grey bra through my shirt.  Just like Carrie Bradshaw if she bought her clothes at thrift stores and this was 2001.

Growing Girl or Shrinking dress?

Either I have gotten taller or this dress has gotten shorter.  Or maybe it is both.      In spite of the fact that it is probably not appropriate for an middle age lady to wear to work - I still love this dress.  And since I will be spending all of today sitting behind (or maybe under) my desk trying to write a complex memorandum, I figure no one will notice.

Socks

I actually started the morning wearing a very cute skirt in celebration of today's spring like weather.  I even shaved my legs!  Then I remembered that I have an MRI this afternoon and I decided I needed to be wearing socks.  Even though I know from my many previous MRIs that they will not let me wear my own socks and that they will likely give me some socks to wear - I became obsessed with the need to wear socks.

So I jettisoned the cute skirt, threw on the first pair of clean looking pants (which unfortunately turned out to be these too tight too short cords), threw on a scarf and jacket and left the house.

Maybe I should have them MRI my brain while they are at it today.  Clearly it does not work right.

Rhetorical Question Friday

Why do I lean at a strange angle in every photograph I take? Why can I never spell the word Plaintiff correctly on the first try? Why am I always craving M&Ms? Why do I dream in the third person? Why can't I get just one kiss? Why would someone give away this cool shirt and why did it take me months to wear it?

Blues for Bulges

I'm not sure if this outfit looks good or not, but I like it. The shirt is comfortable and hides all sorts of bulges from overeating (perhaps I should wear it tomorrow as well), the jeans are, well jeans, and the shoes are surprisingly comfortable and make me fabulously tall.

Red, White, and Lazy

95% of the time I do not plan what I'm wearing ahead of time. I just stand in my closet and choose an item and try to build on it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails. Today I started with this sweater since I through the bright red would be a good antidote to the gloomy weather. Next I grabbed this t-shirt because it was clean and I thought it might balance the preppiness of the sweater. Since I have never successfully paired red with black (the color of most of my pants), I had the easy choice of grabbing jeans and boots. I ended up adding a belt in a failed effort to disguise my paunch.

How do you get dressed? Do you plan ahead or just grab what suits your mood?

These Boots Go To 11

Have you ever been to a thrift store and gone back to an aisle you had previously checked only to find a new item had magically appeared? That was this case with this blazer. I was just about to leave the store empty handed when this Blazer magically appeared. For $4 how could I refuse it?

Pinstripes

I purchased this blazer over the summer at Goodwill. Although I have been trying to reduce the amount of grey in my wardrobe - for $7 I was not going to pass this up.

I Changed My Shirt For You

I have been battling a cold all week and have had to place "staying vertical and not hacking up a lung" above "looking cute." However, when I realized that the shirt I was wearing was really ugly I decided I could not lose face with my readers and changed. Clearly my vanity did not extend to ironing my jeans or posing in a non-dorky way, but I tried.

Red White and Dull

This morning I stepped into my overstuffed closet and I had nothing to wear*. My problem was compounded when I committed myself to these pants (which are great but apparently not as versatile as I thought). After deliberating for an absurdly long time I grabbed this shirt and headed for the door.

Unearthed Treasures

I made an effort last weekend to try to prepare my closet for fall.  I did not get very far, but I did find a bunch of belts that I thought I had given away, including this Linea Pelle belt that I snagged at Century 21 a few years ago.  It is a bit big but works worn in a knot.  I also found these cute Taryn Rose boots that I was not able to wear when my calves were heavier.

Casual Friday

Those of you who have been following along with my various "surprise court appearance" wardrobe malfunctions, might be relieved* to know that I finally got around to buying an inexpensive pants suit that I can keep at the office. This gives me the freedom to dress a little more casually when I feel like it, as I clearly did today.

* or not, as I can only imagine this blog brings out a lot of schadenfreude from my readers. If you fall into this camp, don't worry I am sure to have more hilarious wardrobe exploits even with a back-up plan (including, but not limited to, the fact that
the pants I purchased are a size too small and if I don't lose all the cupcake weight I gained this month - I will not be able to button them).

Today's happiness

This blouse which I got on Saturday's thrifting adventure and is cuter than I thought. These pants which finally fit without cutting off my air supply. A lazy morning where I stayed home and watched True Blood and didn't get into the office until 8:20.
