I Hope I Don't Get Beamed Down to the Planet Alone*
Posted by

As soon as I put this outfit on I hated it. But I also hated the thought of having to change and find something else to wear. So I stuck with it with the hopes it will grow on me. I know there is nothing objectively bad about it, but it just doesn't feel like "me".

Take your nightgown to work
Posted by

I bought this dress ages ago back when I was still under the delusion that I was going to learn to sew and could alter this dress to make it more fitted and less nightgowny. Sadly my sewing plans have not quite panned out the way I wanted. Rather than give up on a perfectly good $6 thrift store find, it occurred to me last night that I could fake the alterations by cinching the waist with a belt and wearing a fitted blazer (you cannot tell in the photo but the dress has a front zipper from the waist up which I am wearing half open).
I actually like the result and I think it looks like a proper dress. I am also super excited about my new bracelet! I love Trina Turk but she is usually out of my price range. So when I saw this on clearance for 80% off, I jumped at it.

I thought that the black shirt would tone down the Camp-Fire Girlsness of the skirt, but I think it just made it worse.

The Dog Ate My Ironing
Posted by

I was going to iron this skirt this morning but I ran out of time thanks to getting stuck in my running shirt. Yes stuck. A few days ago I thought I would reconsider my stance on all in one running shirts and picked up this shirt on supersale at Marshalls. I wore it for this morning's run and all was well until I came home and tried to take it off. The sweat had adhered it to my body such that it was like shrunken Spanx. Since I have no flexibility and pitiful upper body strength it was a rough going for a while.
After the battle of the shirt, I had no time to iron or even coordinate this morning.

Built for Comfort Not for Speed

After a long absence this dress has made a return to regular rotation. I purchased this more than 10 years ago and last wore it at my law school graduation. Because it is mesh it stretches to a variety of sizes which makes it both practical and comfortable.

Gorgeous Gal

There are some inconveniences that stem from working across the street from a mental health treatment facility. At least once a week the police are called to handle some disturbance and it can get very noisy. On the other hand, many of the residents are quite sweet - including the gentleman this morning who called me a gorgeous gal. Considering I was feeling anything but gorgeous at the time, it was a nice way to start the morning.

Mad Woman

I really like the '60's mad men style of this sweater but I find it hard to wear without starting a baby bump rumor. I also find the color challenging. I ended up playing it safe by pairing it with a slim black skirt (check out the cute zipper detail in the back*). Not the most creative pairing but good enough for a slow, rainy, Wednesday. I chose ankle booties to give the outfit some "edge" and because I need to run around this afternoon and didn't feel like dealing with heels.

Short Week, Short Skirt, Long Jacket

I've done what many have thought impossible, combined my own silly meme with a Cake reference. You're welcome readers.
As evidenced by the deteriorating quality (and sense) of my posts demonstrate, I am a wee bit burned out and ready for my mini-break which starts tomorrow. Assuming I do not drown in a pitcher of margaritas, I'll be back in a few days. In the meantime, if you need something to do, you can advise me on how to make this Cake earworm go away and how to pose so that my left leg is not grossly larger than my right leg.

Foiled Intentions

This morning I woke up all excited about the Missoni for Target launch and had the brilliant idea of going to Target before work to get something to wear today. Since I planned to change I just threw on whatever was handy and went to Target. I arrived at 8:25 (they opened at 8) and.... there was nothing left. Not a stitch on the racks (although a woman who had a full cart did let me try on some items for size). And thus I was left to face the day looking like I was dressed by a 5 year old.
In hindsight it occurs to me that Target sells other clothing that I could have purchased but this did not occur to me until about 5pm. Can you believe I have a college degree?
So the lesson of the day is don't get dressed assuming you will soon score some cheap Missoni because it may not happen.

Not Expecting
Posted by
matilda deathstar
In case you were wondering, I am not pregnant. I just chose to wear a dress that gives that impression. August always presents a sartorial challenge for me (and probably most fashion obsessed women). The practical side of me wants to wear a light summer dress because it is 85 degrees outside but the other side of me is craving cozy sweaters, wool skirts, and boots. So today I faced my dual personality head on and paired a light white dress with my new (totally awesome) ankle boots. I think I like it - what do you think?
I was also very excited to find this necklace this morning. It was hiding under a scarf that I never wear (but almost did today). I can't remember where and when (or even if) I bought it but it is awesome so I'm declaring it mine.
