Versatile

Remember this dress from the summer?  Here it is again worn as a blouse.  I almost wore it as a dress over the jeans (remember that trend?) but decided I the leopard shoes were edgy enough.

Blue Suit

A few months ago I saw a gorgeous hunter green pantsuit in a magazine and I became obsessed with finding something similar (for less than $2,000).  While not hunter green, this teal blue suit is quite suitable (get it?).  I  find blue a challenging color to work with but I can think of a few things in my closet that will work with this shade.  NOT, however, the shirt I am wearing now, which will be heading for the give away bag once I get home.

Silhouette for Fall

I love the mix of a light and heavy in this outfit.  I expect to be playing with these proportions a lot more this season.

Skirt: Asos
Sweater, T-shirt, Shoes: Old Navy
Necklace: J. Crew

I'm also pleased, and surprised, at how much use I've gotten out of a neon green skirt.  Here are some other ways I've worn it.

Lazy or Committed

I had planned to wear something else today, but forgot about it until I was halfway dressed in this outfit.  I could have changed but I was too lazy to change so committed to the outfit that I stayed the course.

Easy Fall

I still have not gotten the snaps on this dress replaced which means that every time I sit down or move they fly open.  However, I did buy a super amazing slip to wear under the dress so that I will not get arrested should I sit in public.

I have no idea where anything came from, except the slip you cannot see which is from Soma Intimates.

Objects in Photo Are Larger Than In Real Life

I am pretty sure that in reality I don't look as lumpy and out of proportion as I do in this photo.  But I am too lazy to take another photo to test this theory.

Britney Jean Spears, Esq.

I didn't really notice how wrong this outfit is for me until I saw a bunch of cute girls wearing better and far more appropriate outfits today.  Then it struck me that this outfit, while cute in and of itself, is completely wrong for me.  Maybe I'll send it Britney.

Roof Pig

Roof Pig is what mr. deathstar and I say whenever we are surprised at something . . . such as when I found this suit under my bed.  I have no idea why I kept it but it was clean and I needed a suit for court today so there you have it.

Suit:  Under the Bed (probably Goodwill before that)
Sweater: Old Navy

Wilma Flintstone, Esq.

Have you ever wondered what Wilma Flintstone would wear if she went colorblind and became a lawyer?  Well I think this outfit answers that question.

Battle Weary

It took me a very long time to find something to wear that was client appropriate and that would not irritate my bruised and sore legs.  (Yesterday I ran my first (and hopefully last) 10k race).  At least the weather has cooled down and I could finally wear this pretty silk blouse without fear of sweating through it.

Quest Complete .... For Now

I don't want to jinx things but I think I found the perfect plain black pumps I've been looking for.  Although they have a fairly high heel they are surprisingly comfortable*.  I cannot tell you how many Zappos reviews I had to read to find them, but I think it was worth it.

Shirt: Old Navy
Skirt: Macy's
Shoes: Franco Sarto "Cicero"

*I am going to a charity event after work and will be on my feet all night - so keep your fingers crossed these don't let me down!

Ah-Ha!

I purchased this shirt at least a year ago on super clearance.  It was missing a button which I had to sew back on.  Unfortunately my sewing skills are poor and the result was it looked weird  when I wore it buttoned.  No willing to give up on my $2 investment, I held on to it until finally I realized I could just use it as a layering piece.  Ah-Ha!  You can't tell from this photo but this blazer is a lovely navy/black/green plaid (blackwatch?).  I plan on getting a lot of wear out of it this fall.

Ode to Skirt

Many years ago I owned the best skirt in the world (bsitw).   bsitw  was from J. Crew and did remarkable things for my figure and my wardrobe.  She went with everything and was neutral enough that I could wear her once a week and not feel bored.  It was a sad day when I realized I had literally outgrown her and the chances of me being a size 2 again were pretty much non-existent.  I can only hope that bsitw has found a new owner who loves her as much as I did.

Like bsitw, today's skirt is black wool and from J. Crew (albeit factory).  While not quite as versatile and flattering, it is comfortable and pretty cute.  And that will do.

I Owe You One

I tried to write something funny or insightful about this outfit but I just don't have it in me today.  I'll do better tomorrow.  I hope.

Week in Review

For a short week it sure has been busy.  In addition to testing the limits of how long a person can survive without sleep and exposing stains on the internet, I have run 15 miles, eaten a lot of pumpkin seeds, discovered that walking two miles in high heels will make your shins sore, learned about capital gains taxes, had my office repainted, discovered hilariously cryptic post it notes* behind my desk, finally changed from a summer bag to a fall one, and wrote a really long run-on sentence.

Jeans: Old Navy
Blouse: J. Crew
Blazer: ? via Burlington Coat Factory
Shoes: Dr. Martens
Bag:  Alexander McQueen

*Post it notes found behind my desk.  Not my handwriting (nor anyone in this office).  What could they mean?

Insomnia

Ever since I was 4 years old and had a recurring clown nightmare, I have had issues with sleep.  For the last three weeks my sleep issues have been especially bad which is my long winded way of explaining my theory as to how I ended up at work in a pair of jeans with a red stain on the BACK waistband.  Seriously - what is it and how did it get there?

Lack of sleep may also explain why I then took a picture of said stain (surprisingly hard) and posted it on the internet.  Or maybe I am just a stain exhibitionist.  On bright side - at least I remembered to put on pants.

Transitions

I had hoped to clean out my closet this weekend in preparation for fall.  As is usually the case in these things, I got as far as sorting out one rack and one drawer before giving up and settling down with a beer and Perry Mason movie marathon.  I DID however finally go to the thrift store to donate the four large bags of clothing that have been sitting in my garage for months.

Yesterday

Yesterday, mr. deathstar and I took a walk to the local salvage store.  Not only is it the best source of vintage frog carousels,

and giant elephant sculptures

but it also provides a nice background for outfit posts.  Too bad I didn't wear something more interesting!
