Use your imagination

I purchased this shirt to wear with these shorts.  In deference to my air conditioned office and co-worker's sensibilities, I ended up just wearing jeans.   But if you use your imagination this is a cute outfit.

Casualty of the Liberal Arts

Here's a math problem they don't give you in school.  Matilda goes to Target to buy some  running shorts with a key pocket.  She finds some semi satisfactory ones for $15 and this dress for $7.58.  She later decides to return the shorts and keep the dress - making her part of the 1%.  I think.

Technical problems

Issues with photo editing today.  But since I know you are all dying to know what I am wearing, here's an unedited shot of my outfit.

Today's outfit is pretty boring and wrinkled.  It must be Tuesday.

Good Investment

For an impulse purchase, I have gotten a lot of wear out of this shirt.  Although it remains a bit big in the chest area - I cannot bring myself to get rid of it.   Examples of other ways I have worn this shirt.

Casual

Ever since Jessica Quirk introduced me to the notion of pairing Chuck Taylors with a t-shirt dress, it has become my weekend uniform. Although it is not the weekend and I am at work, in deference to the heat I decided to let my Saturday dress out on a Friday.

Appearances Can Be Deceiving

My co-worker told me I looked amazing in this dress.  Which is especially flattering because I feel awful.  I don't know if it because I tried running this morning in 80 degree heat (BAD idea) or if it is because I haven't slept in a week or because I have a stressful trial coming up - but whatever the cause my insides do not match my outsides today.

The Dog Ate My Ironing

I was going to iron this skirt this morning but I ran out of time thanks to getting stuck in my running shirt.  Yes stuck.  A few days ago I thought I would reconsider my stance on all in one running shirts and picked up this shirt on supersale at Marshalls.  I wore it for this morning's run and all was well until I came home and tried to take it off.  The sweat had adhered it to my body such that it was like shrunken Spanx. Since I have no flexibility and pitiful upper body strength it was a rough going for a while.

After the battle of the shirt, I had no time to iron or even coordinate this morning.

2 plus 2 equals meh

While I like each of the individual items I'm wearing, when I put them together it just didn't work.  Sadly this realization didn't occur to me until after I got to work.  Although I am so tired that I might not have changed even if I was still a home.

RAOK

Although we have never met in person, my friend M clearly knows me very well.  I was lucky enough to be the recipient of her amazing "Random Act of Kindness" this weekend and got a box full of amazing presents - including this necklace.

I like this dress but it is so hard to find accessories that don't make it look like feel like a costume.

Gateway Bag

You may not believe this but there was a time that I only owned one or two handbags at a time and never spent more than $50 on a bag.  Then one day I was browsing through Amazon.com and I saw this $500 bag marked down to $100.  I decided to splurge and the next thing you know I have 50 + handbags and I start a blog to track my attempts to reform my habits.

Reliable

I'm having a rough morning so it was relief to know I had this dress in my closet.  On its own it works for client meetings and with a blazer I can go to court later for a seminar.  If only everything in my life was this simple.

Cold Comfort

I was really tired this morning so I dressed for comfort.  To make the fact that I am wearing a t-shirt and fancy sweatpants slightly less noticeable,  I threw on a jersey blazer.  Which was wise because I am freezing.  This weather is so annoying!

Compliments

In 1998 I had a coworker named Mike.  He was an underwriter, former Navy officer, and the kind of guy who probably wouldn't notice if you wore the same thing to the office 3 weeks in a row.  One day, however, Mike complimented my sweater.  It was so sincere and random that I still have that sweater today.

A similar thing happened with this dress.  Last year I was at a conference and a woman I didn't know came up to me and complimented me on this dress.  Although I would love this dress even without feedback, it adds to your confidence when you know there is at least one other human out there who likes what you are wearing.

Best Laid Plans....

Confession:  I signed up for a Bar Association seminar today because they always serve Chessmen cookies at lunch and I thought it would be a nice relaxing way to end the week.  Unfortunately, my boss had something come up so I have to cover for him in court this afternoon.  Not only does this mean I will leave the seminar early, but it also necessitated me wearing a suit.  Admittedly, this suit is made of cotton jersey so it is very comfortable but I would still rather be the fun summer dress I had originally planned for today.

Another Day Another Probably Too Short Dress

I really like this dress but I feel that if I wear it on its own -  I am just asking someone to throw spaghetti sauce at me.  While there have not been any incidents of spaghetti sauce throwing in my town lately (okay ever) I decided not to risk being the first victim and tossed on a cardigan.   The cardigan also has the benefit of giving a little shape to the boxy dress.  Win win.

Another Day, Another Striped Dress

I have wanted this dress for a very long time but always balked at paying $88 for what is essentially a long t-shirt. I stalked the J. Crew sales for months with no luck.  Then, last Friday, I happened into the local store to return a skirt and there it was - the dress.  For $39!  Since I was returning a $72 skirt - the dress was practically free.  Right?

Keeping it Real

I considered taking a photograph where my slip was not actually hanging out of half my dress.  But then I decided why pretend?  The fact is that it is highly likely I will be looking like this for much of the day so why not stay honest.  Of course if I was REALLY honest with myself, I'd admit that I am way too old and out of shape to be wearing too short dresses to work (or in public).

Eclectic

Ever have such a busy weekend that you need another one to recover? Although I had a wonderful time visiting with my sister and brother--in-law on Saturday and running the 5k yesterday (time: 29:01 minutes), I need another day to recover.

Not Today

One of these days I am going to either learn how to style this dress so it is flattering, or give up and let someone else enjoy it.  Today is neither of those days.
